3 Reasons Why You Should Propose in the Smoky Mountains

You’ll Have Lots of Help

Because the wedding industry is so huge here, there are teams at hundreds of businesses ready and willing to help couples marry in the Smoky Mountains. Orchestrated proposals are growing in popularity, especially in the Smokies. These same businesses love helping someone propose in the Smoky Mountains!

Hire a local photographer and videographer to capture your proposal. Not only will you two have a special memento of the occasion, but you’ll have something to share with friends and family. If you propose inside the GSMNP, hire a licensed photographer.

The professionals at the many restaurants, attractions, and places to stay are experienced in pulling off surprises! Confide in the manager and expect them to make your visit extra special.

The Location and Landscape

Two-thirds of the American population live within a day’s drive of the Smoky Mountains, and there is not an entrance fee to the park. With its natural beauty, four stunning seasons, and over 800 miles of hiking trails, it is no wonder the GSMNP is the most visited national park in the nation. The area is top destination in the United States, and a beautiful place to propose.

It’s the Perfect Prelude to a Smoky Mountain Wedding

The Smoky Mountain area is one of the most popular places to get married! If this area is special to you and your loved one, then proposing (and getting married here) is a splendid choice! It’s beyond romantic to propose here, and then have a Smoky Mountain wedding too! With your proposal, you’ll be setting the stage for a dreamy wedding.

The Best Places to Propose in the Smoky Mountains

Cades Cove

The famous Cades Cove community offers an eleven mile loop with amazing views of the mountains. The area has numerous trailheads that lead to primitive cabins, churches, and other destinations. These structures are remnants of the thriving community that inhabited Cades Cove before the National Park Service formed the GSMNP.

Abram’s Falls is a lush 5-mile hike, and the destination is picturesque! Enjoy horseback riding, bike rentals, and the visitors’ center with pioneer exhibits. Watch for abundant wildlife too. Cades Cove offers many romantic options and beautiful locations.

Greenbriar

To the less-traveled north side of the Smokies sits a charming valley named Greenbriar. Like Cades Cove, the area was once an Appalachian community, and is still full of heritage. It is situated along the “middle fork” of the Little Pigeon River with many beautiful locations for proposals and photographs. The scenery is stunning, and the crowds may be lighter than other areas of the park. It’s a great option for busy times of the year when traffic is heavy and you crave a peaceful setting.

Cataract Falls

For anyone with mobility issues or isn’t interested in a long hike, plan the trek to Cataract Falls. It’s one of the easier hikes in the Smoky Mountains. At only half a mile, it’s a quick and simple walk. The trail head is behind Sugarlands Visitor Center. The visitors center is a top destination in the park, so taking the trail is an excellent choice. This trail is highly recommended for beginners and those who need an easier trail. The trail is mostly flat with a short foot bridge and that crosses a small stream. The waterfall may be small but still a beautiful backdrop and an enchanting place to pop the question.

Gatlinburg Scenic Overlook

The overlook along the Gatlinburg Bypass offers a stunning view of the town. It’s very easy to find. Hop on the bypass from Newfound Gap Road or “The Spur”, which is the stretch of road between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. The roadway hugs Mt. Harrison and the second overlook has amazing views of Gatlinburg and Mt LeConte. These views will take her breath away, especially with fall foliage or snowy mountaintops. Consider this spot during winter when hiking or driving through the national park is not an option.

Plane or Helicopter Tour

This option is not inside the national park, but it offers exclusive views of the epic mountain range. How about a flight above the Smokies? Take a Scenic Helicopter Tour or fly with Sky High Air Tour on a vintage bi-plane. She’ll be in awe of the tour, and even more so once you propose in the open sky!
