Hiring a DJ for your wedding

It is wedding time in the Smokies!

Actually, wedding season in the Smoky Mountains lasts all year long. It’s a blessing to live and work in one of the country’s most popular wedding destinations. We have the pleasure of celebrating with couples on the most important day of his and her lives. Are you scheduled to walk down the aisle soon? If so, hiring a DJ is one of the most important decisions to make when planning your wedding reception.

Two of our most popular blog posts are Top 5 Things to Ask When Hiring a DJ and 5 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Hiring a DJ. When you hire a wedding professional to provide a good or service for your special day, you are putting a lot of trust in them. That business has the power to make or break your dream wedding! That’s why we advocate for thoroughly vetting anyone you hire for your wedding. Whether it is a photographer, caterer, or entertainer, be sure that the individual or business is reputable and experienced.

What is the most effective question to ask BEFORE hiring a DJ?

We recently watched a video showing a drunk wedding DJ. He forgot how to use his equipment. Then, he pushed guests, threw drinks, and ultimately the police arrived. Unbelievably, it got worse from there. As we were watching, we were sad for the bride and the disappointment she had to face on one of the happiest days of her life.

Unfortunately, there are many videos on YouTube showing drunk or inappropriate wedding DJs and entertainers. The DJ from that video had professional equipment and lighting similar to what we use. As that bride was hiring a DJ, she must have thought he seemed credible; he proved otherwise. We have some advice to share so this doesn’t happen to you.

Ask your DJ if he drinks at weddings.

If so, do not hire that DJ. It’s that simple.

Not all DJs are professional. We have heard other horror stories about entertainers arriving at weddings inappropriately dressed. Furthermore, some DJs play inappropriate music that offends guests and disrespects the integrity of such a special day. Ron from Smokey Mountain Sounds absolutely does not drink while working. He remains composed and professional at all times. Ron stays updated on current music and has a proven method for working with couples to organize a playlist. That way, there are no surprises and guests aren’t offended with poor song choices.

These are specific qualities to look for when hiring a DJ in the Smoky Mountains:

  • A professional website and social media pages
  • Active membership with the Smoky Mountain Wedding Association
  • Positive reviews from previous clients
  • Blends the music so the songs flow together, rather than playing songs back to back
  • Charisma and professionalism to make announcements in a manner that informs guests and keeps the reception flowing yet doesn’t allow the atmosphere to suffer
  • Professional and dependable equipment, including updated technology
  • Does not drink alcohol while working

Make the most of your wedding celebration by hiring a DJ who is experienced, dependable, and professional. You and your guests will have the time of your life, and you will make some of the best memories of your life.
