Sevierville Smoky Mountains Winter Activities
The city of Sevierville is the first to kickoff Smoky Mountain Winterfest with the annual “Music, Lights & Magic” event on November 10th at the Sevierville Municipal Complex. This is a completely free event for anyone who would enjoy entertainment, free food, kids’ games, a fireworks display and plenty of great surprises. The event runs from 3-8 pm at the Sevierville Municipal Complex located at 110 Gary Wade Blvd. in Sevierville. The following facilities will be closed the day of Winterfest Kickoff: City Hall, The Civic Center, Community Center, and Police Department Records Division (closes at 1:00pm).
Pigeon Forge Winterfest Kickoff
The second event scheduled is the Winterfest Kickoff in Pigeon Forge, on November 11th hosted at Patriot Park located off the Pigeon Forge Parkway. The Kickoff includes a grand ceremony and the illumination of five million lights, festive decorations, special events, and traditional mountain music.
Leading to the evening’s festivities is the City of Pigeon Forge’s annual Salute to Veterans Parade. The parade begins at 4:30PM on the parkway, between stoplights #7 and #10, and leads to Patriot Park at 5:00PM where the celebration continues. There will be musical entertainment, photo opportunities with Santa and Mrs. Claus, a kids’ play area, local food vendors and quite a bit more. Near the close of the evening, the switch for the holiday lights come on and the Trolley Tour of Lights begin for those who want to see them. The trolleys will arrive to the park with a personal tour guide who will share stories about Pigeon Forge’s history, and its famous Winterfest light displays.
Gatlinburg Winter Magic and Chili Cookoff
To complete the series of Smoky Mountains Winter Activities celebrations is the Gatlinburg Winter Magic and Chili Cookoff. The City of Gatlinburg hosts its Annual Winter Magic Kickoff and Chili Cookoff on November 12th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m on the Downtown Parkway. This is one of the few times of the year when Gatlinburg actually shuts down the main street of the central downtown area to hold all the visitors and vendors who show up for the event. The chili cookoff begins at 5:00PM and features live entertainment as well (sometimes there are even TWO stages on both sides of the street), plenty of kids’ fun things to do, and as it starts to get dark, Gatlinburg will throw their own switch for the holiday lights to come on and begin their Trolley Tour of Lights as well. During the Chilli Cookoff, for a small fee guests can sample mouth-watering recipes of homemade chili with a spoon they purchase, that allows all the chili sampling you desire and a chance to cast your vote for the People’s Choice award.
